(The Long Lost) Wedding Recap

So, a week later ... the wedding weekend recap. (Okay, two weeks later...I started writing this a week ago. I'm slow.)

... so slow, I'm posting this more than 3 weeks after the fact ... shh.

Friday night - Rehearsal
Where we figured out where we were supposed to stand and where to go. Proper procdural stuff, etc. Then drove out to Schomberg for dinner at Ron's house with the families. On the drive out there, Cathy's cousin Dave, my wedding party counterpart wondered where we were taking him - his guess was out into cannibal country (and being the weekend before Halloween, who knows? Maybe we were). He also was finally corrected that my name was not Caitlyn .. apparently he had been calling me that all during the rehearsal (I didn't catch it at the time myself). So I decided that he could have a new name as well - Donald (to rhyme with the groom's name).

Afterwards we headed back home, where Emily & I spent the night at Cathy's. Best line of the night came when talking about movies, specifically Dirty Dancing. Cathy was saying how she remembered the scandal when it came out, of whose parents would let them watch it or not, and how she was in grade 3 at the time (1987). Emily (born in 1990): "You were alive when Dirty Dancing came out?!"

Saturday - The Event
Saturday was pretty relaxed leading up to the event - we took over a nearby hair salon for the morning, getting pretty (about 15 or so of us!), then headed back to Cathy's to eat lunch and get dressed. A friend of Cathy's sister who is trying to create a photography portfolio documented the preparations. Then off to the church, and to do group photos (just across the street from the church, handily enough). The guys were supposed to be gone from the photo site by the time we got there, but when Cathy's dad pulled up in front of the house they were still there, so Cathy tried to hide as we sped around the block.

Pictures, smiling even though it was cold and rainy and 3 of the 4 of us were wearing strapless dresses (the bride had long sleeves, lol). Across the street only slightly late to get the ceremony started - nobody tripped going up or down the aisle, and we all managed to be in the right places at the right times, and Cathy & Ron got married! (No such luck for Caitlyn & Donald though). And there were bagpipes.

Visiting with people at the back of the church, taking pictures outside (cold!), then across the street to the photo site to take more pictures (COLD!). Then up the street to the reception to warm up a bit. (Everything was local for this wedding, which was very convenient). Socializing, pictures, more bagpipes (to announce the wedding party), dinner (very yummy - and being the head table, you get to go first for the buffet), people throwing a big dice to make the bride & groom kiss. Dancing, ice cream cake, bubble machines, speeches (short & sweet, some funny, some touching), more dancing. Pulling pins out of my head at every opportunity, as there were lots poking and kind of painful. I danced with 'Donald' a couple of times, my dad, the girls, and the groom. I wore heels all day, and didn't even feel it. Nobody fell, no major accidents (well, there was a small fire ... a candle on the table with the guest book torched a pumpkin I heard, but only after the fact) ... busy day, but very fun overall.

Here's hoping that the rest of their married life is as fun!
