The Coca Cola Review

Times Square, NYC - May 2005

As many of you know, I love Coke. Not the powdery, illegal kind, but Coca Cola Classic. Classic would be my favorite kind, although they have developed many permuations and variations over the years ... so I though that a review of sorts might be in order. I was too young to remember 'New Coke', but here are some of my opinions on their more recent innovations ...

  • Diet Coke: Ick. Bland, watery, not sweet at all. If I'm going to have a diet cola, I'll have a Diet Pepsi, please ...at least there is some flavour.
  • Coca Cola Zero: Even worse/less flavour than Diet Coke, if you can believe it. I just tried this recently - their 'Zero Calories, Zero Sugar' beverage ... with zero taste. Why bother?
  • Diet Coke w/ Lemon: Tried this a couple of years ago, on a whim... again, ew. About how I would imagine 'Mr. Clean' might taste. I'm pretty sure they've stopped making it, and a good thing too.
  • Diet Coke w/ Lime: I was expecting this to turn out about as well as Lemon, but was pleasantly surprised - I actually really like this one! The lime tastes fairly authentic, and adds a nice tang to the blandness of the diet. (Although, it did cross my mind a few sips in that it would taste even better with rum mixed in ...lol)
  • Regular Coke w/ Lime: Having tried the diet version first, I thought I'd give the regular a whirl as well, to see if it was even better. Turned out not to be the case, surprisingly - the regular sweetness overwhelmed the tangy lime-ness, but I couldn't really taste much of either one. Not bad, but fairly 'blah' overall. May also be good with rum.
  • Vanilla Coke: Yummy yum yum! Probably my favourite after 'real' coke. Tastes like dessert. Please don't discontinue this one (although I think they have already ..boo.) I'm stocking up in this one.

Little things

Little things that have amused/made me happy recently:
-pumping the exact amount of gas that I was aiming for, to the penny
-playing with golden retrievers
-trying on fancy ballgowns
-playing tug of war with a dog who wanted to use his own leash as the rope (which he was attached to at the time, although it was long enough to actually work)
-also being towed by same dog while on an ice rink - he's heavy enough that when he started to run on the outdoor rink, I slid after him (couldn't stop if I tried, lol)
-having a taped copy of this week's Grey's Anatomy to watch, as I missed it in BC
-chewing bubble gum
-seeing old friends
-motorcycle rides
-playing on slides and swings with a 3 year old
