Actions speak...

More words of wisdom/food for thought from the late Jonathan Larson, from 'tick tick BOOM', excerpts of lyrics from the song 'Louder Than Words'

Louder than Words

Why do we play with fire?
Why do we run our fingers through the flame?
Why do we leave our hand on the stove
Although we know we're in for some pain?
Oh why, do we refuse to hang a light
When the streets are dangerous?
Why does it take an accident before the truth gets through to us?

Cages or wings - which do you prefer?
Ask the birds
Fear or love, baby? Don't say the answer
Actions speak louder than words

What does it take to wake up a generation?
How can you make someone take off and fly?

Why would we rather put ourselves through hell than sleep alone at night?
Why does it take catastrophe to start a revolution?
If we're so free, tell me why - someone tell me why
So many people bleed

Cages or wings - which do you prefer?
Fear or love, baby? - Don't say the answer
Actions speak louder than words.

I seem to find it much easier to use other people's words to express myself than my own. Hmm.

I heart Jonathan Larson

I didn’t want to like it, but I think I do anyways….

I was leery when I heard rumours several years ago that there were plans to adapt RENT (my favorite musical) into a movie…movies from books are usually subpar, and I didn’t have high expectations for this one either (especially when they were considering Justin Timberlake for the role of Roger – one of my favorite characters! *shudder* ) But then I hadn’t heard anything about it, so it just kind of faded from my consciousness (the movie, that is – getting to see the show on Broadway in NYC this may was fantastic).

So imagine my surprise tonight when I check out www.apple.com/trailers , as I do now & then to see what new things are coming out, and I see a link for ‘RENT’….. I’m kind of scared, wondering what they have done to it …but curious, too, of course. So, I click, see the familiar red stenciled logo, wait for it to load up….

…And as soon as I hear the first strains of ‘Seasons of Love’, I break into an idiotic grin (yes, sitting in front of my computer by myself). I can’t help it. All of the characters look just like they do on stage and in the liner notes of the soundtrack, and so familiar…and the singing, and oh. So, hopes somewhat restored, I go check out the site to see who the cast is….and further joy is found to discover that many of the actors FROM THE ORGINAL BROADWAY CAST are reprising their roles! Including Adam Pascal as Roger!!!!!!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!

Hopes and anticipation for this movie have now skyrocketed……now its just a matter of waiting until November 11th when its released! Ah, well, there is a clock counting down how many of the five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes are left on the site….I’ll just have to keep checking back there. At last count…… 211, 825.03 minutes to go…

At least I have the trailer and cast blog to keep me entertained until then.

How do you measure a year? Measure in love.

In other news...

Okay, enough w/ the random lyrics thrown together for now.

Next up - graduation from U of T. Wow. I actually made it through....there were many times (this year in particular) that I doubted I would.

So whats next? No idea....

(oh, wait, yes I do - SLEEP! Goodnight) When I next write, I shall be a U of T student no more. I think I am glad of that fact.

A Musical Interlude

Every so often we long to steal
To the land of what might have been
But that doesn't soften the ache we feel
When reality sets back in
Don't wish, don't start
Wishing only wounds the heart
He could be that boy.....I'm not that girl

Waiting/To fall apart/Waiting/And it all comes down/To you
I hear you calling/I know that voice/I hear you calling/I have no choice

All I've got tonight is static on a screen
But now the air is filled with confusion
We've replaced care with illusion
Come to your senses

I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly
Though its not easy to tell you goodbye
I've got to take a risk, take a chance, make a change
And breakaway

I have to speculate
That God himself did make us
Into corresponding shapes, like puzzle pieces
True, it may seem like a stretch
But its thoughts like this that catch my troubled head
When you're away ...

How stupid could I be
A simpleton could see
That you're no good for me
But you're the only one I see
Love has made me a fool
Set me on fire and watched as I burned
Unable to speak except to cry out and wait for your answer
...Everything changes, everything falls apart...

How can you leave the past behind when it keeps finding ways to get to your heart?
It reaches way down deep and tears you inside out til you're torn apart - Rent!
How can you connect in an age where strangers, landlords, lovers, your own blood cells ******?
What binds the fabric together when the raging shifting winds of change
Keep ripping away?

Something has changed within me
Something is not the same
I'm through with playing by the rules of someone else's game
Too late for second guessing
Too late to go back to sleep
Its time to trust my instincts
Close my eyes - and leap
Its time to try defying gravity...
So if you care to find me - look to the Western sky!
As someone told me lately "Everyone deserves a chance to fly"
And if I'm flying solo, at least I'm flying free
To those who'd ground me, take a message back from me...

My suggestion is to keep your distance
Cause right now I'm dangerous...
And if my day keeps going this way I just might
Break something tonight.

For the first time ..... I feel wicked.

In case you're lost: Wicked, Chantal Kreviazuk, ticktickBOOM, Kelly Clarkson, Postal Service, Sarah McLachlan, Rent, Wicked, Limp Bizkit, Wicked

And some final words of wisdom, from Jonathan Larson...

Another Day, RENT
The heart may freeze, or it can burn
The pain will ease if I can learn
There is no future, there is no past
I live this moment as my last
Theres only us, theres only this
Forget regret, or live is yours to miss
No other path, no other way
No day but today
Theres only yes, only tonight
We must let go to know whats right
No other course, no other way
No day but today
I can't control my destiny
I trust my soul, my only goal
Is just - to be
Theres only now, theres only here
Give in to love, or live in fear
No other path, no other way
No day but today
