Communicate - Any Way You Can
I saw an amusing and amazing thing on the subway this evening. Moral of the story, never assume!
While waiting for the subway, a man came along the platform with the assistance of a white cane. No big deal, people moved aside, and he easily got on the train when it arrived. He stood near the opposite doors, and next to him stood a woman, a friend of his, it seemed.
The woman started signing to him ... and he signed back! It was very cool to watch (not to mention completely unexpected). I know that there are a wide range of degrees of visual impairment, but I tend to link 'white cane' with 'very limited vision'. Not sign language ... but there you go.
I love it!
