Burning Up...Argh!

Rude, inconsiderate people! Smokers, specifically, who drop their still burning butts anywhere that seems convenient for them, disregarding everyone around me. Its always disgusting to see piles of them littering the streets, but today I am particularly pissed off at the individual who dropped theirs just outside of the SkyDome, where I was walking along with the crowd of people, carrying groceries home. Minding my own business, enjoying the heat of the summer day, and wearing my sandals, as per usual. Sometimes small rocks or twigs get caught in the sandal under my foot, so I didn't think much of it when I first felt something under my left foot. But it felt soft, which was odd, then immediately after I registered a burning feeling on my sole. There was A LIT CIGARETTE IN MY SHOE, that someone had just dropped. My first thought being to get it away from me, I kicked my sandal off (luckily there was a fair bit of space in front of me), probably about 10 feet or so, then walked up to put it back on, minus the burning part. I couldn't believe it. I was very pissed off, and still am (although I do see that there's a bit of humor in the situation ... it takes talent to be able to get a lit cigarette to land in your shoe while walking). No major harm done physically, no lasting blisters or anything. But ARGH!

So this marks the 2nd occasion that I've stepped on a lit butt - the first being while walking around barefoot in the Splashworks water park at Wonderland. Another great place for smokers to be littering, with thousands of barefoot people wandering about.

I don't like smoking at all in any way shape or form - but if you must, then at the very least, be aware of yourself and your tobacco, both while you are using it and when you are looking to discard it!

  • Oh my good God! I CANNOT believe that happened to you! I hope you're OK, Carolyn! Agree with every other comment made. Sorry to people I offend: smoking is gross and nasty. Period.
