Its been how long??
Wow....I didn't realize that I hadn't blogged since my birthday! Where did August go? It feels like the past couple of weeks just flew by .... I did keep thinking of things that I meant to write about on here, then just never got around to it. Ooops.
Actually, apparently the day after my birthday I logged on and started writing an entry, which I saved as a draft, and then completely forgot about. It seems rather irrelevant now, so I'll sum up instead.... (and an apology for the 10 or so of you who have been checking here for updates for the past several weeks - I'll try to make this interesting).
So, lets see - the birthday week went well, and despite my not planning anything, I had an impromptu pool party anyways (which I didn't have to organize, which made it even better!). A birthday party/high school gang reunion of sorts, actually, and a 'Yay, Cathy's back from PEI for a few days!' celebration. It was a great night, perfect for swimming and catching up with old friends - especially since most of us don't really see each other or keep in touch that much. Its nice to be able to reconnect now & then, though, even when we're all going in separate ways.
Same day as the pool party, during the brief break in the pouring rain that afternoon, we went out to a wooded area at the south end of town and had a professional sister & family portrait taken, which was a fun experience. My mom has been wanting this for 3 years, so she is happy now. The proofs all turned out pretty well, but we have collectively agreed on 2 - one family, one sister - to get prints made of. As its been noted, its probably the last family portrait until one of us gets married.
The next couple of weeks were spent plotting and organizing a surprise party for my parents with my sisters - it is their 30th anniversary this year, in October, but we will all be away at school at that time, and since we've never really done anything for them in the past, we figured we should mark this occaison (being a little early helped out with the 'surprise' aspect as well). The party, held this past Saturday, was a success - they had no clue, no inkling, and we completely surprised by it all. Probably close to 50 people were able to make it, and guests ranged from family, to neighbors, to friends from different circles, to coworkers. One of our neighbors made an amazing cake, and my cousin brought her 1 month old son along. We conspired with friends of my parents for them to go out for dinner (which is something they often do anyways), and despite the large number of people who knew about the party (both those who were there and those who couldn't make it), no one spilled the secret (or the few slip ups that were made went unnoticed.
After all that excitement, I still had a few more days of work left to go, then moving .....
